...the interplay of light and shade
ECO Crisis 1
February 17, 2009ECOnomic Crisis. One of the crisis we have to deal with. I will no longer write about the current situation. Everyone knows what is obviously happening. I will write instead on how I cope with it, in my own little ways.
Since the start of the year, my hubby and I resolved to do these little steps to manage our finances better:
1. Limit eat-outs, take out on weekends only. As much as possible, we cook all our meals. We rationalized that the cost of one meal at a restaurant is equal to half a week’s cost of grocery. We just learn new recipes to make our weekend dinners more special.
2. Limit mall trips to every other week. We realized that we spend more, whenever we spend more time at the malls. Instead of watching movies every week, we choose which movies to watch. If we could buy a vcd/dvd copy, we just watch it at home.
3. Limit newly released magazine consumption. For imported design magazines, we resolved to buy back issues instead of current issues. Anyway, home design trends come to the Philippines months after it is released abroad.
4. Purchase classic clothing items. Instead of buying the latest clothing item, we opt for the classics. That way, it will still be wearable even after many months.
5. Pesco-Vegetarian diet. Not only is the diet light on the body, it is also light on the pocket.
6. Conscientious use of utilities. We turn off lights, equipment and utilities when not in use. Not only we save money on the bills, we also save the environment with the reduction in consumption.
7. Live Simply. We try to simplify everything so it will cost us less. We do away with things we want, instead we live with only what we need.
